About Us

The North Hills Food Bank was established in 1984. Today we serve approximate 225 families each month, which is an average of over 500 individuals. We are a non-profit 501c3 organization, operating independently but affiliated with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank.

The North Hills Food Bank has no paid employees and is staffed solely by volunteers. This includes everyone from the folks who serve patrons to the Director of our facility. In addition to serving families when the food pantry is open, volunteers pick up donations from local food drives; stock shelves and keep the facility clean; ensure that the refrigeration and freezer equipment is properly maintained; and gather & track data required to meet Federal and State reporting guidelines. Our volunteers even plant flowers around the building to make it look warm and inviting, and to let everyone know they are welcome.

Donations and support for the North Hills Food Bank come from local service clubs, churches, schools, businesses and individuals. Many of these organizations conduct food drives to help stock the shelves with non-perishable food items. Local restaurants and grocers provide donations of fresh food and produce.

The North Hills Food Bank is a true example of neighbors helping neighbors during times of need.

Bobbe Grandey accepted the position as volunteer Director of the North Hills Food Bank in January 2019. Bobbe came to the Food Bank from Meals on Wheels in West View, where she served for 6 years, 4 of those as a volunteer Manager. She also delivers weekly meals to Hospice in Wexford, and previously volunteered at the snack shop at Kane Hospital. Bobbe is a 2015 recipient of the Jefferson Award, which honors individuals for outstanding achievements and contributions through public and community service.
When she’s not busy working to help the community, Bobbe enjoys time with her husband of 50 years, Skip, along with their 3 children and 6 grandchildren.
A special thanks to our previous Director, Jim Stebler, who was part of the Food Bank family for 18 years and served as Director for 8 years.
Enjoy your retirement, Jim!
